Zinc Quality VENO Products

International standard EN-ISO 1461

All products produced by Venostal are discontinuously hot-dip galvanised in a so-called contract galvanising plant. The galvanisation plant we work with galvanises the steel according to the international EN-ISO 1461 standard. This standard describes what the zinc composition must comply with, what layer thicknesses are possible and how the end product must be assessed.

Corrosion resistance of galvanised steel

Galvanised steel lasts a very long time. The reason is that zinc corrodes, but unlike rusting steel, after some time the corrosion products form a patina layer from basic zinc carbonate. The formation of a patina layer takes from a few days to about 3 weeks. All our products are left outside for at least several days to allow the patina layer to form.

Regular fumigation

The zinc patina layer is resistant to most dry substances and also liquids with an acid value of
In stables, manure contains ammonium, which is acidic and can damage the zinc coating. Therefore, the advice is to regularly muck out your barn and spray the products clean with water. If you do not muck out regularly, there is a chance that the zinc layer will be affected and the steel will rust.

Advice to prevent rust

It may happen that your fencing, for whatever reason, spends some time in the manure. Regular mucking out is our advice, but what can also prevent corrosion of the zinc layer is a coating layer. We recommend Tenco Bitumen Construction Layer. Once dry, Tenco Bitumen Construction Layer is odourless, tasteless and non-toxic. We recommend treating your fencing, support posts and locking pins up to approx. 30 cm with Bitumen Layer.
